For over 25 years I've worked inside the legal industry: as an associate at a Big Law firm, as Head of Compliance at Lyft, and now as a fractional General Counsel quarterbacking legal needs for multiple companies. I also sit on the advisory board of a legal AI startup. Across every version of that career, I lived the same desk-bound life: long hours, high stress, and the daily bargain of trading health for career. I told myself I was too busy for fitness, sleep, and nutrition. Deep down, I knew that was a lie.

The cracks showed up anyway. Weight crept on. Blood markers slipped. Then perimenopause hit, and things got worse fast: brain fog, joint pain, nights I couldn't sleep. Every doctor offered the same two options: medication or surgery. Nobody asked how I was eating, sleeping, or moving. That gap was the wake-up call.

So I went and learned it myself: the physiology, the nutrition, the research. What I found was both encouraging and infuriating. Small, targeted changes move the needle fast, but the legal profession is structurally built to work against them. Long hours aren't a personal failing. They're a design flaw, and one you can build around if you know how.

I started teaching what I'd learned, blending my knack for breaking down complex topics with a drive to help others take charge of their health. (Fun fact: As a hobby, I write voter guides to simplify California ballots—so I’ve always loved the challenge of making tough concepts easy and approachable!)

That's the premise behind Fit to Practice. Health isn't a wellness indulgence you fit in around your career. It's the infrastructure your career runs on. Neglect it and everything else built on top of it, your judgment, your stamina, your years in practice, is at risk.

We're here to make that infrastructure work for you: simple, sustainable, and built for how lawyers actually live.

Around the time I turned 40, my professional high met my personal low. I was a senior exec and General Counsel of a healthcare startup, running on back-to-back Zooms, forgetting to eat, and saving the “real work” for after my kid went to bed. A voice in my head screamed that I needed to quit. So naturally, I expanded my scope and worked longer days.

To be clear, I love legal practice: the thorny problems, the light-speed pace, and the smart and mostly kind-hearted people. But I also know what it feels like to perform at a high level while coming apart inside, to ignore my health and my relationships and then wonder why I felt completely fried.

These days I’m committed to helping others strike the balance that I struggled with, and bring joy and ease into the legal profession. I write, podcast, and invest and advise in startups. I’m also senior advisor with a legal AI company, which gives me a front-row seat to the question this whole profession is circling: how do you let the machine carry the load without letting it buck you off.

I found meditation in my first year at Harvard Law as a way to survive anxiety and insomnia, and the practical fix turned into a lifetime’s practice. I weave together my legal experience, meditation practice, and energy work training in Reiki and qigong to help others learn to flow.
